So this year's African Movie Academy Awards held yesterday on June
11th, 2016 in Port Harcourt city at the Dr. Obi Wali international Conference
Centre and like always we were wowed by the glitz and glamour of the event. From the flowing gowns, dapper suits and
designer outfits to the amazing sounds and
colourful sights, the highlight of the event was the award ceremony
itself. Nigeria came
away from this year's event as the biggest winner, followed by South Africa,
Burkina Faso and Ghana.
However, the Best Director of the Year award did go to Ghanaian director Nana Obiri-Yeboah
for his thriller 'The Cursed Ones' and the Best Film of the Year Award went
to Burkinabe film 'Eye Of The Storm'. Considering that these two are perhaps the most coveted awards
of the whole ceremony, big ups would be in order for Ghana and even more so for
Burkina Faso’s burgeoning film industry which is evolving into a major contender
for quality film titles within the African continent.
