As Captain America: Civil War crosses
$1billion worldwide making it the first FIL of 2016 to do so, below are other
films to watch before the month of May comes to an end:
THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE
Directed by Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly, Angry Birds is
the animated adaptation of the popular Angry Birds video game created by Rovio
Entertainment. It stars Jason Sudeikis (The Millers, Horrible Bosses),
Josh Gad (Pixels, Frozen), Danny McBride (Your Highness, This is the End), Maya Rudolph,
Kate McKinnon, Sean Penn, Bill Hader and the voice of Peter Dinklage (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Pixels).
Plot: Bird Island is
an island populated by flightless birds and there lives Red, an outcast and a bird with
anger issues. Sent to anger management class, he meets other misfits, Chuck and
Bomb. Suspicious of the motives of pigs who have suddenly appeared on their
island from Pig Island and convinced they are up to something bad, raises an alarm.
Disbelieved by everyone, he is unable to stop the pigs, who have actually come to
steal their eggs, from carrying out their plans. With all their eggs gone and
their village destroyed, the birds are depressed and disheartened but Red leads
a rescue mission to Piggy Island to retrieve their eggs and becomes a hero and
valuable member of the village in the process.
The Angry Birds Movie was released into Nigeria on May 13th,
2016.
NEIGHBOURS 2:
SORORITY RISING
This is an American 2016 comedy directed by Nicholas Stoller. The
movie is the sequel to 2014’s ‘Bad
Neighbours.’ It Stars Seth Rogen (The
Interview, Pineapple Express), Zac Effron (Dirty Grand Pa, Neighbours), Rose
Byrne (X-Men: First Class, Spy), Chloe Grace Moretz, Dave Franco, Selena Gomez
and Ike Barinholtz.
Plot: A couple (played by Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) are
expecting their second child and have put up their house for sale.
Unfortunately, the sale is threatened by a newly established sorority which
spends all its time partying hard. To chase the sorority out of the neighbourhood, the couple
recruit the help of a handsome and ripped-to-shit former enemy. Unfortunately, the rebellious young women,
who in the first place moved their sorority off campus to escape their school’s strict policies,
will not go down without a fight.
Neighbours: Sorority Rising premiered in Nigeria on May 13th,
2016.
THE NICE GUYS
Is an American 2016 Neo-Noir film mystery comedy directed by
Shane Black and stars Ryan Gosling (The Notebook; Crazy, Stupid, Love), Russel
Crowe (Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind), Angourie Rice, Matt Bomer, Margarel
Qualley, Keith David and Kim Basinger.
Plot: It is 1977 in
Los Angeles and a frustrated private detective by curious circumstances
teams up with a hired enforcer who beats up people for a living to solve the
case of a missing girl and the supposed suicide of a fading porn star. They
soon realise they are in very dangerous waters as they uncover a
conspiracy involving very powerful people and anybody who gets involved in the
case seems to wind up dead.
The Nice Guys premiered in Nigerian cinemas on May 13th,
2016.
ALICE: THROUGH THE
LOOKING GLASS
This film is an American fantasy adventure directed by James
Bobin. Based on Carroll Lewis’ 1871 novel of the same title, the film stars Jonny Depp (Pirates of the
Caribbean, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Mia Wasikowska (Alice in
Wonderland, Crimson Peak), Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises, Les Miserables
), Rhys Ifan (The Amazing Spiderman, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows),
Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter.
Plot: Alice by means of a magical mirror is transported back
to the fantastic world of Wonderland. Distressed to find her friend the Mad
Hatter acting madder than usual over the death of his family, she steals the
chronosphere from the time entity so she can go back in time to save her friend
but only if she can win the race against the ever ticking chronosphere and at
the same time must ensure the powerful device does not fall into the hands of
the evil red queen who wants the device at all cost.
Through the Looking Glass premiers in Cinemas as from May 25th,
2016.
X-MEN: APOCALYPSE
X-men: Apocalypse is a 2016 American superhero film based on
characters created by Marvel Comics. Directed by Bryan Singer the film features
James McAvoy (X-men: Days of Future Past, Victor Frankenstein), Michael
Fassbender (Steve Jobs, Macbeth), Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games, Joy),
Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Ex Machina), Nicholas Hoult (Jack
the Giant Slayer, Mad Max: Fury Road), Rose Byrne (Neighbours 2, Insidious),
Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Akexandra Shipp, Olivia Munn and Ben Hardy.
Plot: Earth’s most ancient and most powerful mutant, the
immortal and immensely powerful Apocalypse, worshipped throughout the ages as a god, awakens after a
thousand years. He recruits powerful mutants Storm, Psylocke, Angel and Magneto
as his henchmen in his crusade to wipe out civilisation as it currently is and
in its place establish a New World Order. The X-Men led by Professor X and
Mystique lead a team of young mutants to wage war against their seemingly indestructible adversary as the fate of humanity hangs
on the balance.
X-Men:Apocalypse will makes its way into Nigerian cinemas on
May 20th, 2016.
