When it comes to animated films the Nigerian market is dominated by foreign features more specifically those by Walt Disney and Dreamworks. This dominance may soon begin to wane as it comes face to face with competition. Leading this charge is 'The Secret Princess', a Nigerian 3D animated film coming to us from the studios of Trans Tale Entertainment.
The Secret Prince is a tale about desires, betrayal, determination, survival and above all, the power of love to triumph over the most daunting obstacles.
SYNOPSIS: An aging king's desire for a male heir will see an innocent newborn girl child fall from royalty into a bare existence in the company of animals deep in the jungle and her rise again to grace in a series of event which will forever change an ancient kingdom in the very heart of Africa.
Based on an adaptation from a book by the same title, The Secret Journey chronicles the adventures of Sade, a princess who is switched at birth with a farmer's son in a desperate bid to please an impatient king. She is taken deep into the forest by the farmer's wife to escape certain death in the face of witchcraft allegations following the mysterious disappearance of her husband. This film tackles issues ranging from abandonment, superstition, the preference for the male child and the odds stacked against the girl child. This film may be Nigerian made but it strikes at the very heart of crucial traditional issues in African societies in general.
Coming complete with a damsel in distress, a prince charming and
talking animals, we can definitely feel the Snow White and Cinderella
vibe but infused with sufficient African twists and flavours to give
this film a novelty and never before experienced adventure in Nigerian
film.
Directed by Segun William and produced by Trans Tale Entertainment, it features voice overs by DJ Cuppy as Sade and others including Desmond Elliot. The Secret Princess snowballs into Nigerian cinemas this June 24th, 2016.
